Moldy Cheese..Anyone?

February 28th, 2008 by tire

About a week and a half ago we started the Science Fair in our school. The Science Fair is were everyone in our school who is in a science class has to complete a Science Fair project, from 1 of the 3 categories listed. Consumer science, scientific experimentation, or build a model. I chose to do consumer science. My project was going to be on which cheese molded faster cheddar block cheese or processed cheddar cheese slices, And in which conditions did they mold faster the fridge or a counter top. Through this experiment I learned that cheese slice only have about 5% dairy in them and block cheeses are roughly 98% to 100% depending which type you buy and were you buy it from. My out come from this project was that the cheddar cheese off the counter was the only one that actually got moldy. All the cheese in the fridge stayed the same as day 1. The cheese slices on the counter didn’t get moldy they just turned darker yellow and stiffened.

Nothing Is Being Done.

fur-trade-6.jpgfur-trade-5.jpgfurtrade3.jpgfur-trade-7.jpg

The fur trade in China is terrible thing. But what is worse is that nothing is being done about it. There have been many protests in other countries such as Canada and the U.S. But none in China there are any laws in China that protect animals. You can do what ever you want to any animal you would like. There are few animal shelters in china and all of them are self-run and self supported. Meaning they get no funding from the government.  It makes me wonder were these people getting their money from?

Problems With Research

January 18th, 2008 by tire

fillterd-internet.jpgA couple days ago our Teacher Mr. Fisher gave us a sheet of paper of way that we needed to find more information. One of them being video files.  So I went onto YouTube to find some animal cruelty and Fur trade videos. I opened one and it went good I got information from it. But then all of the other videos I tried to watch all led to a page that said access denied. I called Mr. Fisher over to fix it .It turned out that in the past week our school Internet had started to be filtered by the Manitoba government. So now in school we can no longer do any type of online searches to do with anything inapporiate. So I cant watch any videos or look at any pictures or audio files, I cant even read articles that are inapporiate. So  how do they expect us to do projects   on breast cancer or physical heath, gang violence, criminal law, and apparently animal cruelty.

Fur Trade in China.

January 15th, 2008 by tire

The fur trade in china is one of the most gruesome things I have ever seen or read about, this is what I am focusing my project on. I think that the fur trade is a horrible business and it needs to be stopped. It is particularly bad in China because there are no laws against animal cruelty in there country. They can treat animals how ever they want and the government is ok with it. About one year ago a group of animal cruelty investigators traveled through China. They went through a series of fur farms posing as agents from a fashion industry. On many of there tours the government of China accompanied them to show that he saw nothing wrong with how the animals were treated. In the Fur farms the investigators found that  the  animals were torched  in many ways the cages were  over full and the animals were self mutilating themselves  from being to  crammed in cages, the animals are beaten  and then skinned  while still alive. After they have been skinned they usually stay alive for about 5 to 10 minutes. There bodies are trough into a pile and left to rough in the scorching sun. All types of animals are treated like this cats, dogs, rabbits, and even endangered species such as Panda bear.  I think that there should be world wide laws against this.   My solution  for animal cruelty in fur farms  is  that there should be laws that state that the  animals should have to be  killed with the least amount of pain and suffering, There should be limits to  how many  animals can be put in one cage and facility ,  after the animal is skinned the  body should  be used of its meat not just  gone to waste. These should be world wide laws they still allow the industries to make money and continue, but there are restrictions that make it a more humane industry.

Animal Cruelty

January 9th, 2008 by tire

Animal cruelty has been around for many many years it is a very wrong thing to do many people does not understand that animal cruelty happens everyday to millions of animals.   Animal Cruelty happens to many animals most people think that it only happens to house pets (dogs, cats, ECT.).  But this is completely false it happens to wild animal, and especially farm animal.  Farm animal are not usually abused until they are into the large facilities that involve trading and butchering. They are shoved into facilities with twice as many animals then there is room for.  They are feed poorly and often get inured by workers and other animal (due to lack of space). Once they are ready to butcher the animal, the animal is not peacefully killed. They are torched for no reason they are cut all over and are left until they bleed to death they are burnt with hot rods. Lots of this is not even to kill the animal it is just done for no reason by the employs. There   are many videos of this being  done  and the  employees  who are  doing this are laughing and think  it is a  good  time . I think that  this is completely  wrong there  are   proper ways to   care  for these animals  and that is how they  should be  cared for,  There  should be limits on  how many animals can be  in  one facility depending on the size  and same goes for there pens, they  should  be  cared  for and  feed, And  when they  do  get butchered  this should be  done with   the  least amount of pain  and  suffering .

The Outsiders reflection

-The book

The book The Outsiders is an amazingly well written action packed moving story. I think The Outsiders is a really good book it is an interesting action packed story with many interesting twists.

There are lots of main characters they are Dally, Darry, and Johnny, Pony boy, Soda pop, and Cherry. All of the boys are in a small gang Soda pop, Darry, and Pony boy are all brothers, but they all might as well be they do everything together. Cherry is a girl that some of the boys met at a movie theater and become good friends with. All of the characters are important parts of the book and they are all very specifically described and if any of them were different the book would not be the same. The gang is like a large family they stay together they are greasers for life. If one of them is in trouble they all try and help each other out of it. They are like dominoes if one falls down they are all going down with that one and after they have to rebuild the shape.

S.E Hinton is an amazing author she wrights in great amounts of detail witch is a very hard thing to do with out getting side tracked and pulled out of the story. She did an amazing job at captivating the reader and holding there attention. This is the type of book that once you pick it up You can’t put it down because your always wondering what is going to happen next.

-The movie

The movie The Outsiders is very different from the book. I personally found the book much better. There are some similarities but many more differences. You could tell greatly that all of the characters were of by a long shot especially Dally. Dally in the book is a blonde headed pointed ear fellow with an attitude that nothing could change he wasn’t scared of anything; his one soft spot was for Johnny. In the movie he was tall strong and had dark brown hair and was mean and nasty. Whose only reaction to Johnny’s death was anger and frustration not sadness? They also skipped lots of the book and some of the parts that I thought were very important to the stories meaning were cutout, the movie did not flow as well as the book because of this. They also added things and changed detail witch kind of ruined the point of all the detail pored into the book.

-The Project

For our final project a few kids from L.A and I did a google presentation on violence towards teen females today. At first our was a total mess, we both had different ideas even though we had already agreed on one. So both sides worked on separate projects and then it got all messed up and no one new what was going on. So we got rid of the two separate projects and started a completely new one with a new idea and new topic. We went onto Skype (a chat room similar to msn) and decided on a new topic and way to represent it. The topic was chosen to be violence towards teen females today, and our choice of representation was a Google presentation (an online slideshow similar to a power point). We each had to do 4 slides we could do what ever we wanted with them I made the Title page, 2 fact pages with pictures, and the thank you page for all the pictures URL’s. All together the project was a hard thing to complete with all of the connection errors, and having to redo all of our work. But I personally think the project turned out very well after all.

Christmas Break…..

December 14th, 2007 by tire

It’s almost Christmas break.  There is only one week left of school. I am so excited for Christmas break; I just get to do nothing absolutely anything at all! No traveling any homework, all I have to do is go to work on time. But that’s not so bad as long as imp getting paid im fine with that, and now that   all the contractors are going home for Christmas we are going to start closing at 5 instead of 7.    This Christmas break I refuse to do any thing that does not result in fun or sleeping. No exceptions at all. But some of my plans are to go skidooing, sleep, eat, go on the computer, hang out with friends, and most importantly open presents. :)  Well thoughts are all my plans so far … happy holidays to all
